Watch a video about New Dietary Guidelines: For the first time ever, there are guidelines for infant and toddler nutrition and more information about sugar in their diets. Here are the highlights:

  • Intake of added sugars increases significantly between 12 and 24 months of age. (The trend continues through the preschool years, peaking during adolescence and young adulthood.)
  • The main sources of added sugar are sweetened beverages (27 percent), sweet bakery products (15 percent), yogurt (7 percent), ready-to-eat cereals (6 percent), candy (6 percent), and other desserts (5 percent).
  • It is now recommended that infants and toddlers are not given added sugars so that more important nutrient sources such as breast milk and/or infant formula can provide the main sources of nutrition and to minimize their risk of obesity and other diseases earlier in life.

Page Love was honored to be interviewed by CNN about this topic. Take a look at the video here!
